As Head Pharma Public Affairs International at Bayer AG, Verena Kantel is responsible for global health and global trade topics, with a focus on China health policy. Verena is a trained lawyer with focus on foreign trade law. She is the spokesperson on China of the German Health Alliance (GHA) and the Co-Chair of the GHA China Working Group. In those roles she had initiated the recently published GHA-BDI policy paper on “Sino- EU and Sino-German Cooperation in Health- How to unleash the healthcare sectors full potential for health and wealth”. She there managed in the last two years to forge and facilitate a cross- industry alliance of health care companies in order to advocate for an even more pro-active EU-China policy on health. Verena Kantel is also Chair of the China Working Group of EFPIA-The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations and also a member of the “China- Brücke e.V.” that engages for more education and exchange on German- Chinese relations and a lively dialogue between politicians, industry, scientists, journalists and other stakeholders. Before joining Bayer, Verena had been working on EU-China trade topics at BDI´s foreign trade department since 2013. She has over twelve years experience in policymaking from different perspectives, such as from Industry, government, International Organizations, NGOs and research.
