AsiaBerlin, powered by the Berlin Senate Department, forms the collective platform that brings together communities within the startup ecosystems across Asia and Berlin. We enable relationship-building among investors, startups, and bridge builders by organizing monthly AsiaBerlin events and delegation trips to Berlin and Asia throughout the year. Our flagship event, the AsiaBerlin Summit is the annual summit of year-long AsiaBerlin activities where policymakers, startups, and investors meet to discuss the newest tech trends and cross-border collaboration between Asia and Berlin. We work closely with our partners in the Asia Berlin Forum e.V. (ABF) and enpact, along with the ever-growing support of our honorary Ambassadors.

Rainer Seider

Head of Unit International Affairs, Office of Governing Mayor of Berlin - Senate Chancellery

Rainer Seider, strong on 29 years’ experience in international cooperation and projects, is Head of Unit International Affairs, Office of Governing Mayor of Berlin - Senate Chancellery.He initiated the AsiaBerlin Summit (former Asia-Pacific Week) as a platform for dialogue with Asia in 1997.

Swantje Gies

Managing Director, Asia Berlin Forum e.V. (ABF)

For the last few years, Swantje was with Brot für die Welt which is a large development cooperation organisation based in Berlin. She worked in the Asia & Pacific Department and was responsible mostly for projects with partners in India and Nepal. Her focus is on a span of topics from Human Rights, Health, Gender Equality to Climate Change. Swantje has a background in international economics; she studied in Göttingen, Istanbul and Shanghai.

Katka is the expert on global startup ecosystems with strong strategic background. She designed and implemented numerous innovative formats such as accelerators, bootcamps, hackathons and PoC challenges with over 500 startups. Her approach focuses on building networks and providing sustainable exchange between business partners, tech hubs and startups.

AsiaBerlin Activities

ASIABERLIN SUMMIT

The AsiaBerlin Summit is the annual summit of year-long AsiaBerlin activities connecting Berlin startups with significant ecosystems and markets in Asia aided by relevant contacts and structured networks. The Summit deals with subjects such as smart cities/ urban tech, health, finance, industry 4.0, digitalization, innovation, internationalization, AI, blockchain in the form of conferences, workshops, and expert tours.

ASIABERLIN DELEGATION TRIPS

The delegation trips connect the startup hubs in Berlin, Singapore, Manila, Jakarta, Delhi, Bangalore, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong and enable direct cooperation between startups and the ecosystem players. The delegation trips are funded by the Berlin Senate and implemented by enpact e.V. in cooperation with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, HI Indonesia and Impact Hub Manila.

FEMALE ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN BERLIN AND INDIA (FEBI)

The aim of the project is to strengthen networks of women-led companies in Berlin and India by exchanging experiences and to further develop programmes to support female founders. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Berlin Senate.

SMART CHANGE

Berlin and Jakarta are teaming up to foster innovative solutions for sustainability in growing cities – thereby turning over a new leaf in their urban partnership cooperation. The two cities are launching the three-year project “Smart Change – Strengthening Urban Governance, Prosperity and Innovation in Jakarta” under the European Union’s International Cooperation and Development Programme.

The monthly #AsiaBerlin events highlight the market opportunities in Asian ecosystems such as India, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, and China for the Berlin startup ecosystem. We bring valuable insights and actionable advice from trailblazers who already run successful operations in Asia and investors who funded Berlin-based companies, pitch sessions and more.
