Dr. Eric Schweitzer was born on 24 July 1965 in Ipoh, Malaysia, and lives in Berlin. He studied business administration at Freie Universität Berlin, graduating in 1987 and gaining his doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) in 1990. At the age of 25, he became a member of the management team at ALBA. He has headed the family business, which now operates as ALBA Group plc & Co. KG, together with his brother Axel since 1998. From 1994 to 2006, Dr. Schweitzer was a member of the Presiding Committee of the Federation of the German Waste, Water and Raw Materials Management Industry (BDE), of which he was also Deputy President from 2003 to 2006. Between 1999 and 2003 he was additionally Vice President of European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD) in Brussels. From 2004 to 2016, Dr. Schweitzer was President of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK). In spring 2013, Dr. Schweitzer became President of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK).
